Contemplative Psychotherapy
As a contemplative psychotherapist, I offer supportive, respectful approaches to therapy that are rooted in meditative, spiritual practices. From this viewpoint, we can best describe counseling as mental, emotional and spiritual reeducation. With awareness-building as our foundation, the therapeutic relationship reveals what transformation is needed. I use a gentle yet direct approach to healing that acknowledges both your strengths and opportunities for growth.
I specialize in treating the mental, emotional, relational and spiritual impacts of trauma, as well as their behavioral expressions, such as addictions, mental health disorders. I counsel individuals, couples and families living with and in recovery from addictions and codependency. I have experience assisting individuals with a range of mental health challenges and diagnoses, including personality disorders, depression, anxiety and chronic low self-esteem. Together, we create a customized plan of care that supports the achievement of your personalized goals.
I am a licensed mental health therapist, a master addiction counselor, and a substance use disorder professional. I received my Master's degree in 2008 in Contemplative Psychology from Naropa University, a Tibetan Buddhist Institute. I have graduate and post-graduate training in mindfulness psychology, psychodynamic, psychoanalytic and dialectical behavioral therapies. I have over ten years post-graduate level training in treating substance use disorders and behavioral compulsions.
I also have experience instructing and coaching within the Seattle Public school system as both educator and organizational consultant. I developed curricula utilized by chemical dependency treatment centers and the Seattle Public School system. I have many years of experience as a chemical dependency professional providing individual and group treatment within the outpatient setting.
I am an avid student of self-inquiry, meditation and spiritual transformation. I believe my own continued spiritual and intellectual evolution is essential to providing my clients with effective treatment. I do my utmost to practice what I offer the individuals I counsel, and hold integrity and empathy as my core therapeutic values. I am honored to integrate our therapeutic processes with your spiritual path and practices, and to offer guidance in non-religious, awareness-based spirituality.
